Extracting from Top Bar Hives brings its own challenges!

For those of you who have embraced this fascinating, natural method of beekeeping, take a look at the following video.  Thomas Apiculture supplies a simple and effective innovative solution for extracting honey from raw combs and top bar hive combs.

First, place the combs in an upright position in a fixed cage.  Compressing combs from top to bottom, naturally causes expulsion of wax capping as well as extraction of the honey.  As opposed to crushing the comb as usually done, the perpendicular compression of cells allows a perfect separation of honey and wax.  The pressed wax at the end of the cycle contains very little residual honey and the extracted honey is clear of wax particles.
